Charles Darwin University (CDU) has been granted over $2 million from the Australian Government's Strategic University Reform Fund (SURF) to establish a Renewable Energy Microgrid Hub.
The hub will lead research into the development of innovative, cheap and reliable green power systems.
“The Microgrid Renewable Energy Hub will support cheap, reliable and green power systems through research and training collaborations with industry to develop innovative approaches to address challenges in the design, deployment and operation of renewable energy systems,” Professor Thennadil said.
The funding from SURF encourages innovation and greater connection and collaboration between research organisations and local industry.
The hub will provide training capability to local companies engaged in the operation of power systems in the Northern Territory. Significantly reducing the cost of innovation supports industry, jobs growth and business expansion whilst also developing job-ready graduates at CDU.
