Activate our innovation ecosystem
The Territory's innovation ecosystem is young and growing fast. Activating our ecosystem will maximise opportunities for existing members, attract new members to generate value and diversify our economy. Three key enablers of the ecosystem includes, advisors, investors and suppliers and four demographic groups include women, Aboriginal Territorians, people with disability and youth.
Growing the next generation of STEM enabled entrepreneurial innovators in the Territory focusing on women, Aboriginal Territorians, youth and people with disability.
Support Continue to provide network and concierge services to existing ecosystem networks and develop new networks in priority cohorts, sectors and technologies.
Establish local innovation clusters to foster collaboration between Territory enterprises and research and development to supply innovative solutions to Territory challenges.
Regional ecosystems (Central Australia, Big Rivers, East Arnhem)
Leverage regional business opportunities to support and grow the economy by partnering with Territory businesses and industry to improve capability and capacity to win investment.
Advance public sector innovation
New challenges driven by rapidly changing operating environment and increasingly sophisticated public demand require innovative public-sector approaches.
Public-sector innovation involves significant improvements in public administration, operations, and the value that government provides, including those delivered by 3rd parties in partnership with government. This priority supports our public sector agencies and members to come up with new ideas, try new approaches and work in new ways.
Establishment of interagency working groups around innovation priorities
Develop a series of inter-agency working groups to support innovation priorities such as private-sector test-bedding in partnership with Northern Territory Government agencies, and the development of policy and practices around innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence and drones.
Upskilling our people through training in innovation such as Deloitte’s GovLab / Doblin (ten types of innovation) model, and the Australian Centre for Business Growth’s business acceleration methodology.
Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade innovation led projects
Enhance our culture of innovation through projects such as the development of the innovative procurement method used in the Territory Innovation Challenges Program.
Support public engagement and partnerships to support innovation
New web based ecosystem engagement tool and member directory to allow innovators to easily exchange information and value with each other at much lower discovery and transaction cost than is currently possible.
