In an era when digital transformation is bridging gaps and making healthcare more accessible, a Northern Territory (NT) business Venus Health Co is making strides in pregnancy, childbirth, and postnatal healthcare.

Adeyinka Adegbosin, the CEO and founder at Venus Health Co, experienced firsthand during the birth of their child in Alice Springs during the COVID pandemic, the various levels of access to information in a regional setting. “Our mission is to become a complete digital solution for women during their reproductive care journey, one which complements the existing regional and remote services.”

Venus Health Co received funding from the NT Government’s Business Innovation Program in 2021 and recently completed the program, having successfully commercialised their telehealth app. The funding enabled Adeyinka to produce content locally and engage product marketing strategists to test their market through various advertising channels.

Tylah McConnell is the midwife responsible for developing the video content who has recently relocated to Alice Springs. She writes, “There was a part of me that thought taking the leap to work rurally as a midwife meant that I wouldn’t get as many opportunities, that leaving the big city meant leaving behind my entrepreneurial spirit and the chance to work with innovative start-ups. As I’ve come to learn, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Within 6 months of arriving in the NT, I was approached by Venus Health Co to create the content for this great project." The funding from NT Government Business Innovation Program assisted and helped us get our project over the line.

The Venus Pregnancy & Birth app is designed to support expecting and new mothers through the stages of pregnancy, childbirth, and postnatal care. The app provides free access to expertly curated video content developed by a qualified and registered midwife, covering topics such as pregnancy, labour, postnatal care, and newborn milestones. With over 3,000 downloads in 3 months and a Telehealth model that’s been live for one month, the future seems promising.

The app is now live and available to download for free from your provider, it includes 30 videos on topics ranging from what to do after a positive pregnancy test to ways partners can best support their loved ones in pregnancy.

The NT Government is standing firmly behind this project. A spokesperson from the Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade Martin Redhead congratulated the Venus Health Co. team, saying, “The launch of this app reflects our commitment to innovation and the well-being of our community. We look forward to seeing how it transforms lives and strengthens the fabric of healthcare in our region and beyond.”
