Dr Alan Finkel, Australia's Chief Scientist, visits Darwin

Dr Alan Finkel, Australia Chief Scientist arrived in Darwin for the Forum of Australian Chief Scientists meeting held in Darwin on Tuesday 9 April 2019.

Whilst in Darwin, Alan took the opportunity to visit Charles Darwin University (CDU), meeting with CDU and Menzies School of Health Research leadership and touring their North Australia Centre for Oil and Gas and their Advanced Manufacturing Alliance. A number of Territory innovators were also provided with the opportunity to showcase their innovations including Stephen Camilleri who demonstrated their innovation, Spee3d, located at the CDU campus.

Dr Finkel also took the time to visit Humpty Doo Barramundi which transformed degraded rice fields into a sustainable production system with constructed wetlands performing as a closed: biological recirculated water treatment system. Fifteen hundred tonnes of barramundi and produced each year with little to no exchange with the surrounding waters and Humpty Doo's water reuse system was the winner of a Territory Natural Resource Management Award.

In addition to the Forum of Australian Chief Scientists, Dr Finkel delivered a keynote presentation at the 2019 NT Smart Energy Summit on Wednesday 10 April.
