In 2021 the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre (AMGC), in partnership with the Territory Government, launched the $7.5 million Advanced Manufacturing Ecosystem Fund.
The fund, delivered on the recommendations from the Territory Economic Reconstruction Report, focuses on expanding manufacturing within the Territory with co-investment in local projects that:
- grow an advanced manufacturing ecosystem and capability in the Northern Territory (NT) across the Territory’s priority sectors
- increase investment in advanced manufacturing activity in NT, and secure a greater number of advanced manufacturing jobs located in the NT
- commercialise new products and processes, including transitioning a new product or process from pilot/prototype stage to full commercial operations
- support early-stage small scale and pilot research projects in advanced manufacturing, allowing them to more quickly move to larger-scale commercialisation.
Since 2021, the fund has co-invested over $2 million in 6 projects across the Territory with a combined commitment of $11.8 million to growth the Territory's manufacturing ecosystem.
The Territory projects that have received co-investment from the fund are:
- Advanced Manufacturing Facility in Darwin
- Innovative steel manufacturing capability in the Big Rivers region
- Tropical insulated panels
- Robotic steel fabrication ecosystem in Alice Springs
- Establishment of Diverseco Darwin Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Hub
- Local production, testing and optimisation facility for the Smart Cathodic Protection Monitoring System.
With $5.2 million remaining in the fund, AMGC and the Territory Government are eager to welcome new applications from local businesses looking to collaborate and scale up operations.
