The NT Drone Industry Network and Committee

NT Drone Industry Network

The Northern Territory Government supports the development of a drones industry in the Northern Territory. The Territory is uniquely positioned to grow a specialised drone industry, providing the perfect location to test drone based solutions in remote settings and extreme environmental conditions. This is further supported by a willing and capable group of people across all sectors of the drone ecosystem.

The NT Drones Network (the Network) was launched in May 2019.  The Network is a collaborative group of business, industry, academia, government and civilians who have shared interest in developing and leading a vibrant and strong drone ecosystem in the Territory. The Network is connected and collaborative, with a focus on developing world class solutions to the geographic, environmental and economic benefit to the Northern Territory.

Network members receive direct invitations and notifications to industry events, the latest information relating to grants and funding, as well as opportunities to collaborate directly with the Committee on drones initiatives in the Northern Territory.

NT Drone Industry Committee

The NT Drones Industry Committee was established on 29 March 2021 and drives the activities and news to advance the broader NT Drone Industry Network. The Business Innovation Unit at the Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade provides coordination and support services for the Committee.

The Committee identifies collaborative opportunities that can benefit the NT as well as issues that impact the use of drones for business and research. Members work together to provide services and increase opportunities through identifying training, assisting in mentoring, test bedding and facilitating innovation.

An Expression of Interest (EOI) process is undertaken each year to appoint the Committee membership for each respective calendar term. If you are interested in joining the Committee, please contact with the Business Innovation team at innovation@nt.gov.au for more information.

Community Investment Committee (Youth Network)

Innovation Territory has integrated their Youth Innovation Network into the Community Investment Committee (CIC). This integration brings a focus on business innovation, particularly for youth and people with disabilities, into the CIC's agenda, enhancing our efforts to support young people in the Northern Territory.

The CIC is a collaborative group that unites key stakeholders to create and strengthen pathways to meaningful employment for young people. By partnering with the local community, the CIC leverages community investment and expertise to add value to existing initiatives through a coordinated and focused approach to youth employment across the region.

Our collaboration with the CIC ensures that young people have access to a comprehensive support network, including education, training, mentorship, and job opportunities. By incorporating business innovation into the CIC, we introduce fresh perspectives and innovative solutions to address the challenges faced by young people.

Growing the next generation of STEM-enabled entrepreneurial innovators in the Territory, we focus on women, Aboriginal Territorians, youth, and people with disabilities. Together with the CIC, we are committed to creating a robust ecosystem that supports young people's transition into the workforce, helping them secure meaningful and sustainable employment or explore their entrepreneurial endeavours. This strategic partnership amplifies our impact, enabling us to better serve the needs of young people and the broader community.

Join the CIC in shaping a brighter future for the youth of the Northern Territory. Become a part of this transformative initiative today!

Women's Innovation Network NT

The Northern Territory (NT) Government originally founded the Women’s Innovation Network NT (WINNT) in 2020, aligning with its commitment to developing the next generation of STEAMM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics, and medicine) enabled entrepreneurial innovators in the Territory.

In 2024, Innovation Territory engaged ACTIO Group to manage and grow WINNT. With extensive experience in organisational and program design and delivery, ACTIO Group is dedicated to driving innovation and strategic growth in the Northern Territory.

The purpose of WINNT is to increase diversity and gender equity in innovation and STEAMM through the retention, attraction, and elevation of women.

The network is working towards the following outcomes:

  • representation of women in innovation and STEAMM in the Territory is strengthened

  • a pipeline of opportunities and pathways to encourage and attract girls and young women into innovation where STEAMM is embedded

  • women are empowered to engage with the Territory’s innovation ecosystem and pursue entrepreneurial opportunities

  • availability and visibility of support and development opportunities are increased.

To connect with WINNT, please reach out to ACTIO Group directly. The innovation team will support ACTIO Group during the transition period.
