Darwin High School student, Olivia Anderson, has been selected to represent Australia in the Earth Science team of the International Science Olympiads. Olivia is one of only 21 students selected for the Australian team, beating out thousands of other students who participated in qualifying exams and intensive training camps.

“I’m really excited to be representing Australia because there’s probably not going to be all that many chances I get to be able to do something like this,” she said, “I learned something every day in the Australian Science Olympiad program, and I am excited to be representing Australia and flying the flag for Darwin at the International Earth Science Olympiad.”

Considered the ‘Olympic Games’ for science students, the International Science Olympiads are overseen by an international governing body and sanctioned by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. The Olympiads see top performing secondary students from around the world compete in experimental and theory exams with gold, silver and bronze medals awarded to individuals based on their results.

Competing at the International Science Olympiads is a huge head-start in launching a science career. Team members are often approached for prestigious university courses, prizes, scholarships and internships.

Olivia will compete from 25 to 30 August 2021.
