Over 150 students from Darwin Middle School, Darwin High School, MacKillop Catholic College, St John's Catholic College and Dripstone Middle School attended day one of the inaugural Innovation Zone at the Darwin Convention Centre today.
Students attended workshops hosted by Emil Tastula of Universal Site Monitoring where they took part in a Geocache Scavenger Hunt and learnt what real time connected safety tools will be used in the future to help ensure you and your work mates get home safely from work each and every day. Yvonne Webb hosted Lego Serious Play, whereby students immersed themselves to improve creative thinking and communication by building three-dimensional models of their ideas with LEGO bricks to tell stories. And Jens Cheung, VR Educator and student at Charles Darwin University, hosted the VR Lab which explores how graffiti, music making, panorama and games are created in a virtual world.
At the end of the day event delivery partners Young Change Agents hosted workshops titled From STEM to entrepreneurship, which asks students how they might share their STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) creations with the world through innovation and entrepreneurship.
Additionally an after school program has been designed for both days from 4pm to 6:30pm and has been created to help young people develop their entrepreneurial spirit through innovation and STEM.
Participants will be supported by experienced facilitators from the Young Change Agents and will have the chance to work with industry mentors to develop their idea. The students will also have the opportunity to pitch their idea and get feedback. Register your teen now.
The school program which is supported by the Department of Industry Tourism and Trade continues on Wednesday 8 December 2021.
