Summary

The Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade has been identifying and mapping the Territory Innovation Ecosystem through the Business Innovation Network NT (BINNT).

With the development of additional industry innovation networks such as the NT Drones Network, Women’s Innovation Network NT, NT Energy Innovation Network, NT Youth Innovation Network and the NT Hydrogen Technology Cluster a much higher degree of interactivity between members has been achieved, and new value has been generated through the networks.

The department contributes to the accurate representation of the Territory offering on national and international innovation ecosystem mapping projects and online platforms.

Outcomes

The development of the Territory innovation ecosystem is underway with the department currently refreshing the digital platform. Members will soon be able to register directly on the platform and visibly access a map which will strengthen connections, accelerating the diversification and growth of members and industry champions to foster a culture of innovation in the Territory.

Highlights of strengthened connections and collaboration include:

  • Innovation Playground - partnership with Charles Darwin University, Inspired NT and City of Darwin
  • National Innovation Games - partnership with Paddl Co, National Energy Resources Australia, Industry Skills Advisory Council Northern Territory and Darwin Innovation Hub
  • Territory Innovation Challenge Program Pilot Program (Drones for Life)
