Robocup committee

In an exciting acceleration for regional robotics, the Alice Springs RoboCup Committee has been established and met for their first official meeting in November 2021.

The committee is made up of cross section of the local community and includes teachers, library staff, interested parents and robotics enthusiasts. Congratulations and welcome to:

  • Chair - Deborah Simpson
  • Deputy Chair - Hanna Tan
  • Treasurer - Mark Carter
  • Secretary - Peter Young.

RoboCup Junior is a project-oriented educational initiative that supports local, regional and international robotic events for young students. Using LEGO educational robots the kids build the bots and program them to compete in a variety of challenges, such as rescue maze and soccer games.

The newly established committee has already commenced discussions on the potential for a 2022 RoboCup Junior tournament in Alice Springs. This would bring together local schools from right across the Central Australian region and help school aged children gain valuable future workforce skills.

Robotics is one of the key industry technologies that will define the future of employment and business in the near future. The Territory Government is committed to building a pipeline of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) enabled entrepreneurial innovators, and encourages young Territorians, teachers and parents to be involved either through entering the competition or volunteering for the committee.
